Fight Sequence (Foley Sounds)

This is our fight sequence. The fighting here isn't what we was aiming for it was to practice with the foley sounds. What we done basically we used foods we hit bacon and snapped celery and other stuff. We also stamped on the floor and used a voice over as well The good thing about foley sounds you use your imagination and come up with good sound effects.

Typography

Today I will be viewing some types of fonts that can be used for our title sequence. We need something that connotes a horror. I'll be something that  has blurry quick jittery look to it which brings a creepy and disturbed effect to the film. I think a clear white see through font may fit well with the title sequence, which will represent ghosts and a mysterious atmosphere .  It's important the the typography  fits with the genre of film for example we would not use a colour like yellow to represent something scary, although it could represent cowardly.

Importance of typography:
Style/Mood
Genre
Theme

Se7en
The typography of the opening title sequence suggests that this film could be a horror considering that all the names are scribbled or cut quite frantically. The typography in se7en could also suggest that the film is based on someone slightly deranged or that the film genre could be a deranged thriller.
The writing jitters a lot and has a lot of sudden movement which I think yet again links back to the character being possibly deranged or mentally ill.

Catch Me If You Can
It is hard to pinpoint exactly what genre the film is by the font,  but the credits unravel many escape routes for one of the characters during the title sequence, which clearly shows that this character is trying to get away from someone, because of this I expect that the film genre will be thriller.  The  font is very simple but it could be from a typewriter as some of the credits are coming out the typewriter which also features in a key element of the film and also sets a certain time period. The colour of the font changes through the title sequence which I think matches what is going during the title sequence which features a man change his appearance so this could suggest he is disguising himself to get away from his chaser.

I think all the lines that are coming from the credits resemble a title sequence from the famous great saul bass 'The Man With The Golden Man'.

Feedback on our first shoot

Feedback on our first shoot After uploading our videos we found out they're just too dark. They looked good on the camera but it turned out a lot darker on the MACs. We will we have to re-do every shot again in better lighting and if we want to make it darker we shall edit the lightning afterwards. One of the videos was completely pitch black which was disappointing because it looked good first time round on the camera but after being uploaded you cannot see a thing. Taking some positives from the the first shoot, it well help us learn from our errors and we know it's easier to make a video light and if you want to make it dark than edit it after being uploaded. Although the videos will not be able to be used we got a feel for the apartment that we are working in and starting to begin throwing in some good ideas. Hopefully next time round will get some useful shots.

New Film Idea

Shooting

This an image of mine, james and dans group calendar so we plan our events on there so we all know and our all aware of our plans so there is no excuses. Yesterday we went to the apartment we are recording and began to take some shots for our title sequence. We made some good progress and took shots of a character entering the apartment and had the character scavenging around the apartment and looking through his parents belongings. We also recorded a loft opening by itself basically by putting someone up there and letting it drop. We put together some really good ideas so it'll be good to go again another time to bring some more props to help us complete our title sequence.
This is a facebook group chat which we will use to communicate and speak about dates that will be available to meet up and make our title sequence

Storyboards

These are our story boards was really helped us, at first when I thought we had to do story boards I thought it seems pointless if we have and idea in our head why do we have to put it on paper. I was so wrong the storyboards was have helped us all understand what are doing, we ain't discussing will the where the we should position the camrea will already know because we came to an agreement already
on the story board. It also helped us know exactly how many shots what have left to do.

How we made the storyboards, the first thing we done is brainstormed(earlier post) what typical stuff a scary movie has in it.  We researched many films that are alike to ours and took some aspects from that film to help us brain storm some ideas.

These are the Storyboards (not in chronological order)

Codes and Convention

                                                     Codes and Convention

Typically a opening title sequence will contain:

  • Details of cast and crew
  • The film's title - Type of font is key to this
  • An indication to character or character type
  • Indication of place
  • Indication of historical period
  • Information regarding mood and tone
  • Introduction to signature theme tune -Leitmotif- (theme music associated with a certain character
  • Information about the genre
  • Questions that the viewer finds intriguing (set up Enigmas)
  • patterns are types of editing that will be echoed in reminder of the film
  • Mise-en-scene and cinematography that will be echoed or elaborated on later in the film

Brainstorming

This are the main ideas we got for a title sequence that we had. This helped us conclude what exactly the title sequence will be about.  All these thematic ideas have came in really handy to look back on and help us with our title sequence.

Title Sequence Plan

Title Sequence

Location

We would like to film our title sequence in either an apartment or a house for thematic part of title sequence.  We will be taking extreme close ups of the character in the apartment/house so we do not give away the identity of the character.

The Main Title Sequence Idea

We have an idea to start the clip of with a door for apartment which has the door number 26. The character who will be scavenging around the house hand will appear and pushing the door open.

When the character is inside we will not being away his identification at all so we will be ensuring that we will have many close ups.

The diary is one of the most important parts of the film, which is what character is hunting for. The diary will be open on the desk  and is going to be flicking by it’s self ,which sure key plot points in the film and gives you a rough idea of the film.

Thematic Ideas
·      Diary
·      The Apartment
·      Paranormal Incidents In The Apartment
·      Identity Lost – Passports, Credit Cards, Phots.

Editing:

We will have cut scenes to add to the suspense of the title sequence and during the cut scenes we want to aim to make the clips to become shorter and shorter which will build tension also with a spooky music assisting in the background. The music ideas will be mainly slow creepy music, which has loud noises in it.

During the title sequence the lighting will be dark that make it hard to identify the character and also to make it scary.  It gets darker and darker and builds tension and making the presence felt more and we are trying to suggest that the presence within the apartment will want to keep the character in the apartment to a point there is no escape.

Audience Profiling

                             Audience Profile For Apartment 26
Demographics
The type of people that we are aiming for to watch this film will be:
Males, lower middle class and young adults/students.

Our main target audience will be males from around the age of 15-30. Secondly our second target audience will be 15-30 females.

Psychographics
This film will gain more of the male’s interest rather than the females as from research horrors tend to be watched by more male audience than females. But females will be interested as well who are all fans of paranormal thriller. In addition  think this also is the kind of scary film that a boy may take their girlfriend to watch with them.

I believe that the people that will like this film will enjoy the adrenaline rush and like being scared. I think a key hobby would be fans of paranormal TV shows for example most haunted and the séance shows of Derren Brown. As well , hobbies possibly reading and music and like to socialize.

Changed Film Idea

The original film idea has been changed to a horror film because the original movie idea was far too complicated and had far too many errors. Our new film idea is basically a woman finds out she is adopted since the age of 2. She wants to find out who her real parents her and find outs that her mum, dad and sister were dead. She want's to find out what exactly happened to them, She then goes to the apartment they us live in to discover what has been left behind and possibly find the truth or the reason of why they died.

Zombie Title Sequence Analysis

At the beginning of the title sequence you see a man  wearing an orange suit, we presume he is a prisoner as there is also barbed wire and fencing in the background. He throws a security guard over the railing I think this shows there is a large disobedience order in this film or something along the lines of mayhem or anarchy. Also the credits are all in colour red, which could represent blood and danger.

The general theme of this film is horror/comedy, even though the film seems to have all the iconography to make this scary, this is not what the producers were aiming for during the making of this title sequence.  The slow motion makes the film less intense and ensures you capture funny moments of the title sequence, for example, a half naked zombie chasing a rich man for what looks like his money and so this makes it more laughable. The choice of music resembles the film a lot in the sense that the music sounds like mayhem and anarchy, which suits the circumstances. Although you can clearly guess this isn’t meant to be frightening, as if it they were aiming for it to be a scary film they would of filmed it differently and would of played creepy music.

The key indicators that suggest that the zombieland is horror yet also comedy are:
The significant amount of blood
The Zombies
Sheer Violence
Gory images used

Comedy: There isn’t actually a clear aspect that suggests that this film is of the comedy genre, except for the way the title sequence is shot. Additionally,  I think the way everything is turned around you see abnormal behaviour made for comical reasons.

What also is being portrayed in the title sequence is how, in the film, the world’s community has been completely turned upside-down with everyone who originally had power have now lost it.
Furthermore, the title sequence shows everything in reverse order. A clear example of this is when a stripper is chasing a rich man holding money, Instead of the typical idea of a rich man chasing after the stripper.Lavc52.45.0

To conclude, we see an ordinary woman wearing a pink top, who appears to be spilling some sort of pink liquid. I think the fact that the directors have decided to put her in pink clothes rather than any other colour is because pink symbolises innocence, and the idea of the helpless, inferior woman Behind her you see a disturbing, bloody zombie chasing after her. I think this reveals that zombies are targeting anyone there is no exception, they have no sensitivity or emotions, but are purely barbaric. This is also demonstrated when you witness the zombies attacking fireman and policeman which clearly shows no respect for important members of society.
