§Saul Bass (1920-1996) Saul Bass was a graphic designer but is best known for the design on motion picture title sequences. His work is considered as one the greatest of all time and is great inspiration in the filming industry
§ Saul Bass has created around 50 title sequence during his time in the the film industry and one of his most famous piece of work is “The Man With The Golden Arm”
§Saul Bass is credited with over seeing the first extensive kinetic typography in film in “North By Northwest
§Saul Bass as well as making title sequences he made many poster advertisements for movies.

The Man With The Golden Arm’s controversy story line is about an ex-heroin addict who has been released from prison with a new outlook on life and became clean  but people have other things in mind to get him back on heroin.


The title sequence itself has influenced many other title creators but also have been criticized.

The title sequence has white lines across a pure black background even though the story is about a
  heroin addict the white lines could represent cocaine. The lines could also be an example of the heroin in his veins as all the lines merge in to a arm. Saul Bass is quite well known for using lines in many other

I think the music shows this film is a thriller, it’s jazzy but very upbeat especially towards the end of the title sequence, which in my opinion kind of seemed quite loud and frantic which I thought was important because it could of misled the audience into what genre the film is
